• AFED Granted Consultative Status at UN ECOSOC, New York, February
AFED has been endorsed for Consultative Status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). • AFED Secretary General at AUB Women's Auxiliary, Beirut, 2 February
The Women's Auxiliary Committee at the American University of Beirut (AUB) invited AFED Secretary General to lecture its members on the impact of changing personal consumption patterns on managing resources and protecting the environment. A lively discussion followed the lecture and AFED reports were presented as gift to the committee's library.
• AFED Executive Committee Meeting, Manama, 10 February
AFED Executive Committee held a meeting in Manama, hosted by BoT member Mr. Akram Miknas. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Abdelrahman Al Awadi. The committee agreed on AFED's agenda for 2015, including a plan for developing resources.
• Keynote Speech at Mediterranean Strategy Conference, Malta, 17-18 February
"Green Economy for a Real Arab Spring" was the topic of a keynote speech by Najib Saab, Secretary General of AFED, at the opening of a regional conference in Malta. Organized by UNEP Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP), the conference reviewed a strategy for sustainable development in the 16 Mediterranean countries members in the Barcelona Convention. • AFED in UNEP High Level Advisory Group and GEO Experts, Nairobi, 26-27 March
AFED Secretary General had been appointed for the United Nations Environment Program's High Level Advisory Group (HLG) as regional stakeholders representative. The HLG, holding its first meeting at UNEP's HQs in Nairobi on 26-27 March, will oversee the production of the sixth Global Environment Outlook (GEO-6) due in mid-2017. GEO is UNEP's flagship report on global environment published each 5 years. Twelve authors and editors of AFED reports, who had been nominated by AFED, had also been selected as contributors to GEO-6 in different capacities, in recognition of the credibility of AFED contribution. Ten AFED associated authors were appointed as Regional Contributors, one as Regional Reviewer and one as Global Reviewer.
• Food Security Report at the American University of Beirut, Beirut, 27 April
In collaboration with the Issam Fares Institute for Public Policy and International Affairs (IFI) and the Faculty of Agriculture and Food Sciences (FAFS) at the American University of Beirut (AUB), AFED will present its 7th annual report on Food Security in a panel discussion at AUB, with editors and authors as panelists.
