Since his retirement from Petrofac in 2013, Mr. Semaan has dedicated himself to the support of entrepreneurial endeavors. His efforts and financial support have resulted in the creation of multiple successful businesses and partnerships in the fields of Renewable Energy, Real Estate and Housing, and Telecom Infrastructure. His dedication to the various ventures, have attracted world-class co-investors such as the IFC and the M-1 group. His successful efforts have resulted in the creation of hundreds of jobs, in addition to substantial economic returns for his investment partners.
Petrofac Group, 1991 to 2013: Co-founder, Director & President.
Joined Petrofac in 1991 to establish Petrofac International, a FTSE 100 Company in which he remains a major shareholder. During his tenure at Petrofac, Mr. Semaan served on the Board of Directors and held different positions including Chief Executive of Engineering & Construction, Group Chief Operating Officer and was President when he retired from Petrofac on31st December 2013.
From 1977 to 1991, Mr. Semaan held various project positions with Consolidated Contractors International Co. based in the Middle East, where he was involved in the management of oil & gas, civil works and infrastructure projects in Oman and Bahrain.
Mr. Semaan serves on several business boards and is a member of the Board of Trustees of The American University of Beirut (AUB). Until recently he served as a member of The Board of Trustees of The American University of Sharjah (AUS). Mr. Semaan is also a founding member of the Board ofTrustees of The Arab Forum for Environment and Development (AFED).
In 2011, Mr. Semaan established the Semaan Foundation in Lebanon to support philanthropic activities in the fields of education, healthcare as well as social welfare.
Mr. Semaan holds a B.E. in Mechanical Engineering from AUB.
He passed away on 1 May 2017 in Boston, Massachusetts - U.S.A.
